mmumble is a voice keyboard provided by Covalet LTD (“Covalet”, “we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15869880. These terms are the agreement between you and Covalet when you install or use mmumble. If you don't accept them, don't use the app.
For how we handle the small amount of data we process, see our Privacy Policy — it forms part of this agreement.
You must be at least 13 years old to use mmumble. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms on your behalf. mmumble is provided to you personally; you may not resell, sublicense, or make it available to others as a service.
mmumble takes audio you dictate, transcribes it via third-party speech recognition, optionally cleans the transcript via a third-party language model, and inserts the result at your text cursor. The current providers are listed in the Privacy Policy and may change without notice. The service is delivered as software-as-a-service over the internet; an active connection is required.
The keyboard works anonymously against a per-device identifier and does not require an account. We additionally offer an optional mmumble account, accessed by signing in with Apple, Google, or an email one-time code, which lets your personal vocabulary, dictation stats, and paid subscription tier follow you to other iOS devices you sign in on. Sign-in is provided via Supabase and the providers listed in the Privacy Policy.
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time. We may set or vary usage limits, throttle abusive traffic, or refuse requests we judge to be harmful, fraudulent, or in breach of these terms.
mmumble offers a free tier with a weekly word allowance and one or more paid subscription plans (collectively, “mmumble unlimited”) that remove that allowance. Current plan prices and billing periods are shown in the in-app paywall and on the App Store and apply at the price displayed at the time you purchase.
Paid subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple Inc. through the App Store. Apple's payment terms apply to the purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. Manage or cancel a subscription from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Uninstalling mmumble does not cancel an active subscription.
If you are signed in to an mmumble account when you purchase or first surface a subscription, that subscription is linked to your account so the paid tier follows you to other iOS devices on the same account. The link is permanent; we do not provide an in-app flow to re-bind a subscription to a different mmumble account.
From time to time we offer an introductory free trial on a paid plan. Eligibility, length, and which plans the offer applies to are determined by Apple's subscription-group rules and by the configuration we publish in App Store Connect; only one introductory offer is available per Apple ID per subscription group. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the subscription converts to a paid term at the then-current price and continues to auto-renew on the cadence shown at sign-up.
All payments are made to Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under its standard policies. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, request it through reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area: by purchasing a subscription you agree that we begin providing the digital service immediately, and you acknowledge that this means you lose any statutory right of withdrawal under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (UK) or the equivalent EU consumer legislation. Nothing in these terms removes statutory rights you have which cannot be excluded by contract.
When you use mmumble, you agree not to:
We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have breached this section. Where the breach is material or repeated, we may do so immediately and without refund of any unused portion of a paid term.
You own the audio you dictate and the cleaned text mmumble produces from it. We don't retain either past the duration of a single request (see the Privacy Policy for the technical details). We claim no ownership over your dictated content and we do not use it to train or improve any model.
To deliver the service, you grant us — and our processors named in the Privacy Policy — a temporary, worldwide, royalty-free licence to receive, transmit, transcribe, clean, and return your dictated content for the purpose of returning the cleaned text to your device. The licence ends when the request completes.
If you sign in, you also own the personal vocabulary, dictation counters, words-per-minute samples, and personal style prompt that mmumble syncs to your account. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host that data on our backend for the sole purpose of making it available on the devices you sign in on. The licence ends when you remove the data or delete your account.
mmumble, the mmumble brand, the app, our backend services, and everything we publish on this site are owned by Covalet LTD or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your own use and subject to these terms and to Apple's standard EULA where it applies.
mmumble depends on third-party services to function — Apple (App Store and platform APIs), Cloudflare (hosting), and the providers listed in the Privacy Policy. Their availability, pricing, and terms are outside our control. We are not responsible for downtime, errors, or changes attributable to those services, except to the limited extent we are required by law to be.
mmumble is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, accurate, fit for any particular purpose, or that transcribed and cleaned text will match what you intended to say. Speech recognition and language models make mistakes; you are responsible for reviewing the output before relying on it for anything that matters.
If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction (such as the United Kingdom under the Consumer Rights Act 2015) that grants you statutory protections we cannot lawfully exclude — for example, a right to a service performed with reasonable care and skill — those protections still apply.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Covalet's total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with mmumble — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise — is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid for the service in the twelve months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim and (b) £100.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, nor for loss of profits, revenue, data, business opportunity, goodwill, or any losses that arise because mmumble misheard a word, produced an unintended transcription, or was unavailable when you needed it.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that UK consumer protection law prevents us from excluding.
You agree to indemnify Covalet, its officers, employees, and agents against any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) your breach of these terms, (b) your misuse of mmumble, or (c) content you dictate or distribute using the service that infringes a third party's rights or breaks any law. This obligation does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own negligence or wilful misconduct.
These terms apply for as long as you have mmumble installed or continue to use the service. You may stop using mmumble at any time by uninstalling the app and, if you have a paid plan, cancelling the subscription with Apple. We may terminate or suspend your access — including the keyboard extension and any paid features — at any time if you breach these terms, if your continued use would expose us to legal or operational risk, or if we discontinue the service.
If you signed in to an mmumble account, you can also delete the account separately from inside the app under the profile screen. Deleting your account removes your synced vocabulary, dictation counters, words-per-minute samples, style prompt, device links, and Supabase identity. It does not cancel any Apple subscription — you do that through Apple — and it does not affect your ability to keep using mmumble anonymously on the device. We may keep a minimal subscription record after account deletion to comply with tax and audit obligations; the record is unlinked from any identity. See the Privacy Policy for the full data-handling detail.
Sections that by their nature survive termination — including your-content, our-IP, no-warranty, limitation-of-liability, indemnity, governing-law, and contact — survive any termination of these terms.
We may change these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and surface a notice in the app the next time you open it. For non-material changes (clarifications, typos, updated links) we may update silently. Your continued use of mmumble after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms; if you don't accept them, stop using mmumble.
These terms and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Subject to your statutory rights as a consumer, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence if you are a UK or EEA consumer and local law gives you that right.
Before starting any formal proceedings, please email [email protected] and give us a reasonable chance to resolve the issue informally — we almost always can.
Where Apple's standard end-user licence agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula) applies to your installation of mmumble, you and we acknowledge that the agreement is concluded between you and Covalet, not Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for mmumble or its content. To the extent the standard EULA imposes additional terms in Apple's favour (third-party-beneficiary rights, intellectual-property warranties, and product-liability allocation), those terms apply in addition to these and prevail to the extent of any direct conflict.
If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not assign these terms without our written consent; we may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all of our assets. These terms (together with the Privacy Policy) are the entire agreement between you and Covalet regarding mmumble and supersede any prior understanding.
